picture of child with art project The Tongass School of Arts and Sciences is excited to offer a general education preschool again this fall. The first year of Tongass Preschool was a great success, and Ms. Ruth is looking forward to another year as the teacher. The Tongass Preschool is a research based program utilizing the ITI philosophy and "Creative curriculum".

Your child will start their first education outside the home in a positive, caring environment which teaches the LifeSkills and Lifelong Guidelines. Instruction builds on each child's strengths and interests, it's not "one size fits all".

Your child will gain skills in science, math, reading, music, art, physical activity, and drama through hands-on/minds-on activities. Hands-on activities and self reflection turn minds onto the thrill of discovery and the joy of learning. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to participate in the program.

Currently, two different classes are being offered: a morning class meeting on Tuesdays and Thursdays geared for three and four year olds and a morning class meeting on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays geared for four and five year olds. Class maximums are set at 15 students with a preschool teacher and aide. Children must be three years old by September 1, 2008.

The Tongass Preschool is located at the Tongass School, 410 Schoenbar Rd. Though the preschool is affiliated with the Tongass School, it is its own fee based program.
