Welcome to the Kindergarten page! The 2006-2007 class learned lots and had lots of fun!

picture of student modelOn February 9, the students had a "fashion show" where they modeled sashes, bracelets, headbands and other creations that they had decorated with patterns.

picture of student modelThe patterns consisted of teddy bear stamps of different colors. The use of the bears tied in with the yearlong theme of animals.


picture of student modelPatterns are a unifying theme that weave together mathematical topics. Through patterns, students learn to see relationships, make generalizations and predictions, and find connections. Learning about patterns creates a foundation for math and science learning.

Here a kindergarten student works with a 3rd grader. Tongass School students celebrated the 100th day of school by working on inter-grade projects.

student and parent helperTongass School parents are encouraged to help out in their child's classroom. Dave greatly enjoyed working with the students every Friday.

picture of studentMusic is an important part of the curriculum at Tongass School. Music instruction helps students develop fine and gross motor skills. Many research studies have shown that these skills directly improve reading, math, and coordination.
